After a day of gentle rain the ground is perfect for preparing the first beds for sowing and planting. Today it’s the onions and main crop potatoes.

April is one of my favourite months in the garden…..it will be a crazy busy month of sowing and planting, of bed prep and erecting structures….I can’t wait. Here’s how it’s looking at the beginning of the month.

As another month comes and goes and I reflect on what motivates me.
Vivi’s Kitchen Garden 165: Grass paths and the first potatoes go in.
It is time, at last, to put the first veggies into the soil. Today I’m planting my new potatoes and tending to my grass paths.
Vivi’s Kitchen Garden 164: Peas, Pea Moths, flowers & herbs.
Sweet peas in memory of Stan and David…….and I’m sowing green peas (edibles) again this year after giving them a miss last year……and looking at organic ways to (hopefully) beat the pea moth and avoid having half my peas ruined by their little grubs.
In the Kitchen: Happy accident soup (squash & beans).
After a couple of days in bed with a migraine I was starving hungry…….but the fridge only had some random left-overs in it…….so this is what I made…..and what a treat it turned out to be.

Now that the weather has calmed down again it’s time to get on with preparing the beds for planting potatoes……and keep an eye open for new growth appearing in beds which have been dormant for a few months.

After a few days away from the garden because of a lingering storm I make a quick visit to check on any damage…..and whilst in the shed I talk about my top 5 seeds to grow.

The time has finally come for me to sow my tomato seeds…….I love this moment each year as it always feels like the new growing season is really about to begin……and I can’t help but imagine warm summer days and fruit eaten straight off the plant…..

A quickie visit on a very blustery day (between Storm Freya and Storm Gareth). I’m trying something new for my slug traps this year so that I can hopefully save a bunch of cash.
