At the start of another heatwave I take time-out for a chat. A quick visit to the beach plus chat about local facebook, summer sports, books and a ‘grr’ advert moment etc.

It’s a scorching afternoon in the garden so I am alternating jobs between sunny spots and shade spots. The brassicas were due to be pricked out a couple of weeks ago….the foxgloves likewise…..and the tomatoes need their cares….at least the ones that are alive and growing do!

A busy day…..phone calls, emails, waiting for phone calls back….and a visit from my electrician. Getting on with jobs while I wait…..indoor plants, fertilizing, pulling things from storage, putting things into storage…..

Hurray for a break in the rain…..now it’s a rush to get the rest of the tomatoes in and more besides. I’m really cramming it in….because I’m greedy for my veggies! I’m really trying to get the most from my tiny, north-west facing cottage garden.

After 10 days of fabulous weather…..dry and sunny…..we’re now looking at days of heavy rain…..so I need to get a move on with my plantings! There’s more to do, on the last dry day, than I can fit in…..but I’m happy with what I managed to get done in this last week.

We’re never too old to learn new things! This week there were a few…..a loom I’d never heard of, a newly discovered octopus, forecasting the weather with a rookery and tummy rumbles as communication. Plus some lovely treats and other happy making stuff.

At the end of a heat wave….and before days and days of rain I get a wriggle on with some planting. But I also need to make some structures for the plants to grow on!

It’s time to tackle a job I planned to start last October…but the rain prevented me. A bit of grunt work will be involved. Please excuse the noises off…..they calm down later in the video. NB. I mention ‘cosmos’ at one point…I was, of course, meaning ‘crocosmia’….the heat made my brain malfunction for a moment!
