Today I’m making one of my favourite recipes with the first harvests from my garden….but I’m giving it a tweak to help with my weight loss. I’ll be calculating the calories for this scratch cooked recipe and showing you how I do it (as I did for most of my recipes at the new year) and showing how I manage a calorie controlled diet without counting calories or weighing and measuring every time. Plus a fab book!

Hoorah! The first tomatoes have ripened so it’s time to get them harvested and preserved. Today I’m starting in the garden with the harvesting (and a quick tip for easy picking) before heading into the kitchen to get my produce preserved (the faff free way!). I’m going to weigh all my tomatoes this year, which I haven’t done fore a while…..I want to see just what £ value this small, seaside garden can yield. Plus…..a little quirk in the garden.

Sunday, 3rd of August. I haven’t done any gardening for two weeks (apart from watering and harvesting) and it shows….some of the plants are getting a bit jungle-y. Time to get on with some of the summer jobs: pruning, tying-in, seed saving…..and a rescue (hopefully!) for the brassicas.

It’s day two of Swanage Carnival and the highlight of the day is the procession…..all along the sea front and then winding through our narrow streets. Spirits were high despite the gloomy weather. My side of the street was packed…..because it was right next to the pub. 😉

It’s day one of the Swanage Carnival and I’m off to the showground early to get a good seat! Food stalls, rides, The Red Arrows, sea shanties, a pint of something cold, a bit of dancing…..and fireworks to open our week of fun.
