Vivi’s Kitchen Garden 114: Blanching celery and harvesting berries under a blazing sun.

Our heatwave/zero rain weather continues – making daytime gardening not just uncomfortable but even possibly dangerous. I tried to get a step ahead of the heat by getting to the garden early to tackle some of the little jobs that have fallen by the wayside…..in particular I wanted to get more of the brassicas into the ground. I was shocked to read the thermometer at 8.30 am…….and had to beat a retreat by mid-morning. Most nights I am dreaming of rain……….

  1. We are having the driest of winters over here, probably your normal summer. 21C and 9C overnight. Lovely. Bit scary what our summer will be if your weather heads this way. Just starting to plant out seedlings now. Thought I would try the aspirin thing this year, so can you tell me what ratio to my 1 litre sprays you use please. Bought the quick dissolve in water kind. Hope the drought breaks soon, at least the water is not rationed.

    1. We finally had an hour of rain yesterday – it was glorious! I use a 300mg tablet of aspirin in 1 liter of water for my spray. Hope you get some rain this winter to fill all your reservoirs……

      1. Thanks Vivi.

      2. 😀
