In the Kitchen: Butternut squash & sage risotto.

When you wake up on a chilly morning feeling a bit below par it’s time to make comfort food. Today it’s squash risotto…….ooooh, it is creamy loveliness in a bowl and makes me feel better in an instant. You will need: 1 squash (about 500g or more), 1 large white onion, a few cloves of garlic (to taste), a few sage leaves, 1 cup of risotto rice and one liter of vegetable stock. Have fun and enjoy the scoff.

Vivi’s Kitchen Garden 111: Climbing beans, climbing squash and tomato care.

Finally we have a day with slightly cooler temperatures (still hot!) so I can attend to the garden……so many little jobs are outstanding because all I have done for weeks is water… My priorities today were the tomatoes…….the beans and squash got a bit of attention too. And I discovered the joy of spritzing myself with cold water……

Vivi’s Kitchen Garden 101: Planting the vine bed. Tomatoes, squash, cucumbers and peppers.

On another scorching day I make a start on planting up the vine bed. Donated ‘spares’ of tomatoes have saved the day plus the squash, cuces and peppers which were all started indoors weeks ago……….it finally feels like the garden is taking shape. A huge thank you to all my plot friends who gave me their spare tomato plants – the girls came good!
